Every year, millions and billions of dollars are spent by state governments to offer several kinds of grants to citizens. There are many criterions on which eligibility of state government grants depend.  Here are some of the reasons for which people apply for state government grants.

Who is eligible for state government grants?

The basic principle is that any person who can prove ‘financial need’ will be eligible for state grants. However, the ‘financial need’ differs from one grant to another. Generally, the grant is dependent on the yearly income of the individual or the income of the entire family seeking state grant. Unless an individual or his or her family is financially well, it will be very difficult to seek state grants.

  • Disability grants: The federal and state governments offer disability grants. Disability grants can be secured by individuals who have served security or defense services or similar services.

The women can use these grants to meet their business expenses or to start a new business. Two best examples of these grants are Foundation Grant and Grant for Minority Women.
  • Single Mother Grants: This grant is applicable to mothers who are 25 years of age or older and have taken a significant break before getting back to college. 

These are some of the most common reasons for applying for state grants. The application may take from few months to a year to get scrutinized and get approved by state government. The grants offered by the state and its availability vary from one state to another. Sometimes, people who are not qualified for federal grants can obtain state grant as the eligibility for the state grants have different criteria.
